World Tea Enthusiasts Assam (worldTEA), registration under the Societies Act, Government of Assam is in process
The aims and objectives of the society based at Guwahati are to work towards the overall improvement of the quality of produce and the quality of life of the stakeholders of the Tea Industry of Assam and India. It focuses on sustainable development and the promotion of the tea industry within India and abroad, striving to establish the quality of Assam and Indian tea among tea enthusiasts worldwide. The society will endeavor to connect and give leverage to Assam and North East Indian tea to the world through knowledge, education, promotion, training, marketing, tourism, networking, data bank development, innovation, and the application of IT, artificial intelligence, precision farming, nano and green technology, research, and mutual interactions and exchanges for sustainable development.
The society’s particular focus will be on guiding and working on all aspects of small tea growers, from cultivation and processing to marketing. The area of operation of the society includes the geographic area of Assam State and extends to the beneficiary states of North Eastern India, namely, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Sikkim. It will also provide need-based support to the entire tea-growing areas of India and tea-growing and consuming countries of the world, with a special focus on the tea-growing countries of Asia, including potential markets.

Dr. Pradip Baruah, M. Sc. Agri, Agril Mktg Mgmt (Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore), Ph D (Gauhati University, Guwahati), PGDIBO, PGDHRM, CES (born 19th February, 1964, official) is associated with the tea industry of India as a tea expert, Professional Tea Adviser, researcher and educator for a period of more than four decades having worked in all the tea growing areas of the Northern India, viz. Assam, Darjeeling, Cachar, Dooars, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, Nagaland and Uttarakhand. He is Founder & President of World Tea Enthusiasts Assam (worldTEA), Guwahati, Assam. He is presently Chief Technical Officer of a Nano product based Company, Guwahati and Scientific Tea Adviser and Visiting Adviser of several tea companies of the North Eastern India. He is also technical adviser to a couple of agro-input companies of India. He was the Chief Scientist and Chief Advisory Officer and Founder Chairman, Academic Cell, Tocklai Tea Research Institute, Tea Research Association, Jorhat, Assam.
A prolific writer and academician, renowned researcher, he is author of nine research-based books- English (6), the highest by anyone in India, and Assamese (3), the most important ones being ‘The Tea Industry of Assam: Origin and Development’, the first and the only exclusive analytical book on Assam tea (2008, first edition with reprints, enlarged second edition in 2024), ‘History of Tea: the Beginning and Development of Indian Tea – through the ‘eyes’ of Assam’, a comprehensive book on history and development of tea in the world and of Indian and Assam tea (2020), ‘Tea: A Wonder Drink for Health and Wellness’, a compilation of scientific findings around the world on how tea is beneficial to human health (2020), ‘Cheering Cuppa: the Magical Brew’, a unique bilingual (English and Assamese) book of anthology of tea quotations from around the world (2019), Two Hundred Years of Assam Tea, 1823-2023: the Genesis and Development of Indian Tea (2023), the book chronicles 200 years of Assam and Indian tea for the first time, Darjeeling Tea: Nectar of the Queen of the Hills (2023), a comprehensive book covering all areas of Darjeeling tea from crop to cup and beyond and only one of this type, and ‘Chitro Bichitro Axom’ (Assamese), a best-selling encyclopedic book on Assam into fourth edition, and several book chapters. The forthcoming books on organic cultivation practices and organic tea management and tea tourism are in press. He is author of more than fifty papers, articles on tea science (all sole/first author), history of Indian and Assam tea, production and marketing of tea, etc published in national and international journals and newspapers. He is particularly known for his works on organic tea management, wild tea, tea biodiversity, climate research, sustainable tea management, purple tea, specialty tea, tea innovation, tea and associated horticultural crops, tea management, tea tourism and culture and history of tea.
He is working towards innovations in tea with a Guwahati-based technological company as Special Adviser, Tea Industry Innovations, on blockchain and application of AI in tea plantation management. Dr. Baruah is intimately involved in works for welfare of senior citizens and journalists of Assam through Sangbadpran Prafulla Chandra Borua Foundation, named after his late eminent journalist father. He is a passionate tea story teller too. He is presently a professional scientific tea Advisor offering Advisory services of excellence to the tea industry for sustainability with his decades of expertise and experience at the national and international level.
